Easy peasy homemade marinara sauce

No more buying marinara sauce from the store when you can make an even more delicious sauce on your own that is cheaper than the store bought version. I buy organic tomato sauce and tomato paste from Costco in bulk, 12 (15 oz) cans for $9.49. This breaks down to $0.79 per can of organic tomato.

For this recipe I used 2 cans each of the tomato sauce and tomato paste, this allowed me to fill up 2 (previously used and saved) jars of marinara sauce. I use as much as I feel is necessary of the spices, taste it for flavor to see if its up to your liking.
Currently working on figuring out the process of growing, drying and storing fresh ingredients from parsley, cilantro, oregano, basil, green onion, etc. Enjoy fresh ingredients from your own garden. But until then, purchase the seasonings/spices that I need from Sprouts when I need to buy some by the ounce. Yes, Sprouts has a special place in my heart for scoopable ingredients of any kind which saves in the amount of waste (in packaging). Just replace into the empty containers at home and keep an endless supply of the ingredients most used.

INGREDIENTS:

1 tsp Onion powder
Tbsp Olive oil
Tbsp Garlic minced
2 Tbsp Oregano
1 Tbsp Parsley
1/4 Cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp Red pepper flakes
2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
2 (6 oz) cans tomato paste
Salt/Pepper

1. Start with heating up oil in a large sauce pan over medium heat. Add in the minced garlic and stir, browning the garlic about 2 minutes. Add in onion powder and cayenne pepper and stir until fragrant.
2. Pour in the cans of tomato sauce, and about a 1/4 can full with water. Scoop in the cans of tomato paste and mix the sauce continuing to cook on medium heat. Add in the oregano, fresh parsley flakes, red pepper flakes and salt and pepper. Continue to stir the sauce over medium heat for 5-7 minutes.
3. Place the sauce pan off the heat and let sauce cool. Pour the sauce into empty glass jars and seal tightly for later use in the refrigerator.
